A COFFEE morning organised by a mum who lost a 19-year battle with cancer has raised more than £4,000.

Sue Hall, from Pennington, died aged 68 on August 2 before the event she had been planning with her friend Margaret Hamilton — in the hope of raising £200 for MacMillan Cancer Support — could be held.

Her sons Mike and Chris Hall stepped in to hold the event at Leigh Cricket Club on Friday in her memory, and have so far raised £4,300.

“We were completely overwhelmed by how many people turned up,” said Mike, aged 40.

“There must have been hundreds of people who came through during the four hours we were there.

“My brother Chris, his wife Sarah and Margaret are the people that really worked hard on it.

“My mum just wanted to to do something for people who might need the service but she didn’t know she would be needing it herself so soon.”
