A MUM from Hindley Green is aiming to complete 12 challenges in 12 months to raise funds for Wigan and Leigh Hospice.

Tracy Symons, aged 37, will start her year of fundraising with a 10K run in New York on New Year’s Day and finish with a 30K bike ride in Australia on New Year’s Eve 2015.

Tracy, an accounts manager for steel works Collins Reinforcements in Ince, is fundraising in memory of her father-in-law Ray Symons; her uncle Harold Gregory and school friend Susan Belshaw who were all cared for by the Hindley hospice.

She said: “I want to do at least 12 challenges throughout the year. I’m starting on January 1 with a 10K in Central Park in New York where I’ll be running in the freezing cold probably in huge snow drifts and I’ll be finishing in the blistering heat of summer in Australia.

“I’m going to be doing loads of other challenges in between and I’m not going to be doing the same challenge twice – I want to do something different every time – and get other people involved too.”

Tracy will be joined in her New York running challenge by husband Lee while her daughters Chloe, aged 15, and 13-year-old Bethany will cycle the 10K.

Chloe will also join Tracy in Survival of the Fittest, a 10K obstacle course in Manchester.

So far, Tracy has the following 12 challenges planned:

• January – 10K in Central Park, New York

• February – Ladies’ Night at home with friends

• May – Manchester Electric Run, a 5K run or walk done at night

• May – the Manchester 10K 2015

• June – Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon in Liverpool

• July – Manchester Color Run

• September – Raffle and a ‘Pink Day’ at work

• October – Marbury Park zombie run in Cheshire

• November – Survival of the Fittest

• December - 30K bike ride in Australia
