WORK has been completed on a new multi-million pound affordable housing development.

Specialist housing developer Mulbury Homes has handed over the 24 properties in Borsdane Avenue, Hindley, which has transformed a derelict site, to Great Places Housing Group which is making the homes available for affordable rent.

The scheme, which comprises a mix of two and three bedroom properties, is based next to the Borsdane Precinct, a shopping parade which had stood semi-derelict for around 10 years before it was restored in 2013.

Cllr David Molyneux, Wigan Council’s cabinet member for regeneration, said: “The new development has completely rejuvenated this area of Hindley and it is wonderful to see it completed and residents moving in.

“The transformation of this area has been achieved through excellent partnership working and I would like to thank Great Places Housing Association and Mulbury Homes for their work in making this scheme become a reality and the Homes and Communities Agency for their funding support.

“The creation of high quality, affordable homes for people in housing need is a priority for Wigan Council.

“This development is the latest in an ongoing programme of high quality affordable home developments being undertaken by Wigan Council and its partners.”

Manchester-based Harbur Construction has built the new properties on behalf of Mulbury Homes.

Greg Mulligan, a director at Mulbury Homes, said: “It’s great to have been involved in a project that is helping to regenerate the wider Hindley area, as well as meet the need for quality affordable family housing.”

Peter Bojar, director of development at Great Places Housing Group, said: “We’re really happy to be offering people in the area an opportunity to live in quality homes. Great Places is committed to providing homes at affordable prices while also regenerating the communities it serves.”
