FLYING the nest for the first time was just too scary for one baby blackbird who decided he would fly into a house instead.

Mum and daughter Yvette and Sam Clark from Leigh got quite the surprise as they watched three blackbird chicks appear from their nest for the first time, only for one to fly straight into their kitchen.

The birds had made a nest in a Wisteria bush in the back garden and over the spring the family had patiently waited to see the chicks appear.

But one little chick had a different idea to his siblings and after hopping about the back garden, not quite used to his wings yet he decided a tour of the Clark's house was his first step into freedom.

Mrs Clark, of Charles Street in Leigh said: "Over the spring we have had a blackbird nest in the Wisteria bush in the back garden and we would see the mum and dad flying in it every day with food and worms for the chicks.

"Then on Monday it was the first day that the chicks came out of the nest and we were actually quite excited, but then he just started going the wrong way.

"He was just hopping around trying to fly and then he just flew to the open back door into the kitchen."

The adventurous blackbird then took a tour around the house. Mrs Clark filmed him moving from the kitchen, to upstairs, before having a little rest on the banister and finally settling on Mrs Clark's handbag, which Miss Clark then carefully carried outside to reunite the chick with his family.

Mrs Clark added: "We were terrified when he was sitting t up on the bannister because he had been trying to fly and we knew he couldn't.

"He was quite happy sitting on my handbag though and that's when Sam carried him out on put him back on the Forrest Flame bush in the garden.

"He must have been in the house a good 15 minutes but he is hopping around the garden quite happily now."
