WIGAN East Neighbourhood Policing Team have warned home owners to be aware after a spate of house break ins.

The Greater Manchester Police Team warned residents on their Facebook page after properties across Leigh were targeted.

It is believed the houses, one on Thirlmere Street in Leigh, one on Birley Street in Leigh and an address on Newton Road in Lowton have all been victim to thieves this week.

Police were called to Thirlemere Street after an occupant left the back door open of their property to bring in the bins from the end of the ginnell, which was long enough for a thief to enter the home and steal property.

In a similar case, the addresses on Birley Street and Newton Street were entered via an insecure window and front door- prompting police to put out the warning.
