A NEW creative workshop has launched at the Turnpike Centre for people over the age of 50.

‘MemorableLEIGH’ is led by Healthy Arts and is open to individuals who want to learn something new, have fun while doing something artistic and make new friends.

The project is being supported by the council’s Deal for Communities Investment Fund as part of the ‘Create’ programme.

Held from 1pm to 3pm on Tuesdays until March 22, MemorableLEIGH will use storytelling, music and reminiscence facilitated by Steve Fairclough, Julie McKiernan and Bob Kettle.

The sessions, which cost £5 each including refreshments, are dementia friendly with free places for carers of an attending participant.

Martin Green, project manager for Healthy Arts, said: “We don’t want the cost to be a barrier to supporting individuals who might have a hidden creative passion, so please talk to us if you are on a low income but are keen to take part.

“Healthy Arts can support young people not in employment, education or training who might be interested in being mentored throughout this programme, giving them new skills and experience for their CVs.”
