TWO men accused of murdering a man in Leigh appeared at Liverpool Crown Court on Tuesday.

Kevin Derbyshire, of Findlay Street, Leigh, and Dwayne Turner, of Railway Road, Leigh, are alleged to have murdered 50-year-old dad-of-two Edward Wood.

Mr Wood was found seriously injured outside the Oceans Eleven Chip shop in Railway Road shortly before midnight on May 4 and died in hospital an hour later.

It is alleged that he had been kicked and punched.

Derbyshire, 32, and Turner, 28, who appeared via video link from Forest Bank prison, spoke just to confirm their identities.

They were both further remanded in custody until July 22, when they are expected to enter their pleas.

A trial date was fixed to begin on October 31.

Two other men, aged 38 and 46, arrested in connection with Mr Wood’s death have been bailed pending further enquiries.

Hailed as a ‘much-loved son, dad, brother and uncle’ by his family, Mr Wood was set to become a granddad for the first time later this year.
