THE pain of losing her one-week-old grandson has led to a 50-year-old woman starting a business looking after other people's graves.

Jenny Brew, of Land Side, Leigh, was devastated when baby Harrison died earlier this year.

The mum-of-three and grandmother-of-five was further upset when seeing many neglected graves near to where he is buried at Leigh Cemetery and decided to do something about it.

After gaining great feedback on her idea to start a business tending to graves, Remember Me Grave Tending Service was launched, and Jenny is delighted to now be helping other people who have lost precious loved ones.

She said: "When I visiting my grandson’s grave I realised that many people either can’t visit loved ones' graves or live too far away to maintain them.

“If I was in that situation I would want someone to maintain the grave for me.

"Losing a loved one is so difficult and knowing that you are unable to care for their grave for whatever reason adds further upset to a lot of people.

“I just want to help others to not worry about that and to concentrate on remembering their loved ones, like we remember Harrison.”

Her new business covers the cemeteries of Leigh, Atherton, Howe Bridge and Tyldesley.

The cost of having a grave maintained by Jenny is £10 for Leigh Cemetery and £15 for the others.

You can book the service on a monthly, weekly or one-off basis, with flowers and ornaments costing extra.

Jenny added: “I will take pictures of the grave before and after I have attended and send people the photographs on e-mail or text as proof of the service.

"We as a family have found that untended graves is a particular problem in the baby memorial garden.

"This is probably because visiting babies' graves can be particularly difficult to do for grieving families.

"I know their pain and I would like to offer them the comfort of knowing that someone is caring for the grave.
