PARENTS across the borough are being urged to apply for primary school places for next year if they have a child who will be four by the end of next August.
The application process for primary school places is now open for parents to apply until January 15, with places to be confirmed in mid-April.
Parents who apply after this date will be less likely to get a place for their child at one of their preferred schools.
Every place must be applied for through Wigan Council, even if the child's name has already been registered at a school or they have an older sibling already attending the school.
Cllr Joanne Platt, cabinet member for children and young people, said: "I would encourage all parents to apply as quickly as possible for their child's preferred primary school to avoid disappointment.”
Parents can apply online at wigan.gov.uk/schooladmissions, giving their three preferred schools in priority order.
They can also collect an application form from a primary school or contact the council's school organisation team on 01942 489013 to have one posted to them.
