THIS picture of a little egret was taken by Leigh Ornithological Society member Paul Richardson at Pennington Flash Country Park.
The reflection on shallow water makes it look like there are two of them.
The small white herons were hunted during the 19th century to provide plumes for the decoration of hats and became extinct in north western Europe. However conservation laws introduced in the early 1950s helped the species and little egrets were breeding again in France, Holland, Britain and Ireland by the beginning of the 21st century.
