A SOCIETY for deaf children and a family mediation centre are among the latest community projects to have been awarded Lottery funding.

Wigan and Leigh Deaf Children’s Society (WLDCS) and Resolutions Family Mediation Centre in Leigh have been given £10,000 each from the Big Lottery Fund.

They are two of 225 projects sharing a total of £4.6 million in the latest round of funding.

WLDSC has been given money for a project called All Ears – Positive About Deafness.

It will be used to provide a programme of themed activity days for deaf children and their families.

The scheme will cover social isolation and lack of confidence and work to improve the mental and physical wellbeing of group members.

Resolutions Family Mediation, which is based at Higher Fold Community Centre in Stirling Close, Leigh, has been given funding to run family mediation sessions following the breakdown of relationships.

The Talk FIRST project will focus on the contact between parents and children and ways of improving communication and mental health through reduced stress and anxiety.
