A MAN has been ordered to carry out 60 hours of unpaid work after admitting driving a car while under the influence of a drug.

Neil Benson, of Cameron Street, Leigh, had 5.1 micrograms per litre of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, the primary psychoactive ingredient in marijuana, in his blood when driving in the town on November 16.

The 33-year-old also pleaded guilty to being caught in possession of cannabis in Wigan the following day.

Benson appeared before Wigan and Leigh Magistrates' Court on Thursday.

On top of the unpaid work he has been banned from diving for 12 months and has to adhere to a rehabilitation activity requirement and pay an £85 victim surcharge and £85 court costs.
