A ROCK festival has been organised to raise money for a granddad-of-one recovering from a major operation in a Greek hospital having broken his back in three places while on holiday.

Stephen Moss fell backwards down 10 steps at an apartment block in Rhodes last month and has to pay £60 a day for nurse treatment as he recovers from surgery.

The 60-year-old’s holiday insurance policy did not cover immediate medical flights home and his wife Debbie has been forced to rack up a heft accommodation bill to stay with Stephen during his ordeal.

A one-day gig at Colliery Bar and Grill on King Street, Leigh, featuring eight rock bands, including popular tribute acts Black Zeppelin and Motorheadache, will help to cover the unexpected costs the couple face.

Named Ozzy Mossy Fest after rock music fan Stephen’s two nicknames, the fundraising event will be held from 1pm to midnight on Sunday, August 27.

It is being organised by Graham Lee, a friend of Stephen’s and lead singer of Roadhog, one of the bands performing.

Jan Hull, of Holden Road, Leigh, who is playing a key role in fundraising for the bank holiday weekend festival, said: “I know Stephen from seeing him at gigs over the years and we are part of a big rock family.

“When something like this happens it is important we all try to work hard to help each other out.

“All the bands playing at the festival know Stephen so they will be putting on a good show for him.

“I am sure everyone who goes will have a good time.”

There will also be a raffle and tombola at the festival to raise extra funds for Stephen, who has been given no indication of when he can return home to Leyland.

Tickets for the festival are £5 per person and can be pre-booked or bought on the door.

There will be food and refreshments available.

A fundraising page with a target of £7,500 has been set up to pay for the medical costs.
