A MAN arrested on suspicion of murder following the sudden death of a 28-year-old woman has been released without charge.

Police say her death is no longer believed to be suspicious after a post-mortem examination was carried out by the Home Office.

Detective chief inspector Clare Devlin, of Greater Manchester Police's Wigan borough division, said: "We are no longer treating the tragic death of this woman as murder.

"We have released a 35-year-old man without charge."

Officers were called to Thomas Street in Hindley Green at around 8.20pm on Saturday by the North West Ambulance Service.

GMP announced at 10am yesterday, Sunday, that they had arrested the man after circumstances surrounding the woman's death raised suspicion.

The post-mortem examination was carried out later in the day.

DCI Devlin said: "At this devastating time my thoughts are with the family of this young woman, who had her whole life in front of her.

"This truly is heartbreaking."
