THE spending of a £4 million investment fund in Leigh will be split into three key areas.

The Believe in Leigh Fund, which was launched in March, has received 119 suggestions from residents with activities for young people including the creating of ‘safe’ zones, the regeneration of the town centre and the improvement of Pennington Flash Country Park coming out on top.

Money has also been set aside to repair Leigh Miners Welfare Institute’s roof.

A further £1 million is being spent on the regeneration of Bradshawgate.

Leader of Wigan Council, Lord Peter Smith, said: "I would like to thank residents for having their say about what they would like to see in Leigh.

"We have been sifting through the responses to come up with a plan that we feel best meets the needs of local residents and I am confident these three schemes will address the issues raised.

"We will work with residents and community groups now to shape these proposals.”

The funding will come from Wigan Council's 2017/18 budget.
