COLWYN Bay were the visitors for another slice of MNF at the Kensite and it was the first competitive meeting between the clubs since April 1985. Both teams started the game in relatively comfortable mid table positions on the league ladder. Two days previously Colls had departed the Emirates FA Cup following a narrow 1-0 defeat at Ossett Albion while visitors had secured a fine 3-1 league triumph at Clitheroe. Kristy Holt, Ash Woods and George West returned to the Colls line up for this International encounter.

The Bay started like an express train and took the lead as early as the 4th minute. Will Booth bursted into the box and was upended by Gareth Peet for a nailed on penalty.. Jack Hindle deposited the spot kick straight down the middle of the goal. The black n whites continued to chase shadows as the Welshmen played the best opening twenty minutes of football seen here since the Witton Albion FA Cup display in August 2016. If more composure had been shown in the front of goal it may have been over and out for the hosts.

Colls survived the siege with limited damage, started to get a toe in the game and then equalised on 22 minutes. The goal was all about the two lads who were ineligible for FA Cup selection as they were cup tied. Kristy Holt won the ball on the edge of The Bay box and he played in Ash Woods whose low shot went through the keeper and somehow landed in the roof of the net. It was his first goal in Colls colours.

Both teams were now playing attractive football and Colls had a goal disallowed with minutes of the half remaining. Iain Howard sprintedclear on the right flank and his slide rule Pass was well finished to the keeper's right by George West. The Kensite crackled with incredulity as the offside decision seemed very, very harsh. West then had a quarter chance but blazed over from out wide. If it has gone in it would have been assured of the goal of the season gong.

Michael Clegg's side were excellent after the break and the architect of the performance was sub Darrhyl Mason. In the 65th minute and with maybe his first touch of the game he teed up Jordan Cover who finished powerfully to the keeper's right. Seven minute's later it was 3-1 and it was Mason's assist again. His tantalising centre was smashed in by Cover from the edge of the six yard box. Colls now had the game by the scruff of the neck and spurned umpteen chances towards the end of the game to improve their goal difference tally. Cover could have ended up with the match ball at the very least.

Colwyn Bay were fantastic in the opening twenty minutes but Colls weathered the storm and put in their best ever Evostik performance to date. Again the Kensite Stadium bounced on a Monday night.

On Saturday Colls visited Mossley and came up short losing 2-0. Both goals were in the first half. Michael Clegg's team huffed and puffed but struggled to breakdown a resolute home defence.

On Saturday Glossop North End visit The Kensite, 3pm Ko. On Tuesday the black n white streipes go to famed non league side Hyde United, 7.45pm Ko. Both games are Evostik Division 1 North fixtures.
