HIGH schools have been battling it out in the third annual Cross-curriculum Challenge.

Last year’s winners Golborne High School, St Mary’s Catholic High School in Astley, Fred Longworth High School, Atherton Community School and Lowton CE High School all took part in the competition at Leigh College.

Teams had tests in English, maths and science to complete as well as history, sport, media studies, psychology, business studies and art.

Walkden High School come out on top on the day with St Mary’s finishing second and winning medals for their efforts.

Each school was invited to bring a team of six Year 10 pupils to compete in the various challenges.

The tasks were carried out in a range of different methods.

The science challenge involved measuring the strength of gravity in the room while the sports activity asked pupils to devise an event or scheme to get women back into sport.

Head of Teaching and A Level Studies at Leigh College, Tanya Evans, said: “The pupils from all of the schools should be very proud of their efforts.

“They represented their schools brilliantly during the event, getting actively involved in all aspects of the competition.”
