AN amateur theatre group has been left in limbo after the venue of its summer show has told them to look for another stage.
The New Garrett Theatre has been holding its shows at Atherton Community School for two years since they were forced to move from their old base, Formby Hall, which has now been demolished.
There have been audiences of more than 250 people watching performances at their new base but due to the show dates clashing with the GCSE exams held in the school hall this summer, it has been forced to look for a new stage.
Committee member Debbie Smith said: “The school is an excellent venue which was accessible to the whole community, due to its position, size and amenities within.
“We hope that a compromise with the school can be reached with the support of the local community.”
The school said it is is discussions with the theatre group about the summer show.
A spokesman added: “Atherton Community School, as part of the Chapel Street family, is committed to supporting community projects where possible and when it does not impact on the essential activities of teaching and learning.
“We have met the New Garrett Theatre a number of times to discuss use of the school building and currently, because of examinations, accessibility is limited.
“We are happy to meet again with the New Garrett Theatre to explore how we can support them going forward.”
