A MEMORY tree will greet visitors at Leigh Infirmary next week to mark Dementia Action Week.

It will be situated at the main entrance of The Avenue facility from Monday to Friday in which people can write a memory on a paper heart in exchange for cakes which have been donated by supermarkets in the town.

Staff members at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust (WWL) have also baked cakes that will be on display.

If people do not want a cake, they will be given "forget-me-not" gifts instead.

Dementia lead at Leigh Infirmary, Pat Wright, has organised the scheme.

She said: "We do something every year to raise awareness of this week but we have gone a step further this time.

"We are helping the people of Leigh and thinking about those who suffer with dementia and their carers.

"We are focusing on supporting the carers as they are sometimes forgotten.

"Dementia can affect anyone at any point so it is important to raise awareness of that and the aim of this idea is to share memories as people do forgot."

The memory tree will be on display from 9am to 5pm on each of the days.
