AN artist is set to showcase his work along various canal locations in a free week-long exhibition.

Aaron Pearce, from Mosley Common, has drawn inspiration from his love and knowledge of fishing in Leigh to paint around 12 pieces of art.

The 37-year-old will be carrying his work on a historic short boat, called Ribble, from Friday, June 1 to Thursday, June 7 from 10am to 4pm with the first stop being Higher Green Lane in Leigh.

Aaron has used weathered plywood from the town and used colours to match the settings of fishing locations.

Self-taught artist Aaron said: “I have loved fishing since I was nine and I know that there are a lot of pioneering anglers that have come from Leigh such as Benny Ashurst.

“The work I have done includes moments that I have experienced when I have been fishing myself including the mixed feelings of triumph and disaster after losing a big fish when you are on the brink of catching one.

“Anglers also ‘get the bug’- when you are thinking about the next time you go fishing and that is something I have thought about with my work too.

“My painting technique also suits this type of art as well.”

After Higher Green Lane, Aaron will take his canal boat exhibition to Leigh Bridge, Pennington Flash, before going to Wigan Dry Dock and Appley Bridge.

Aaron, who lives on a canal boat himself, is based at Leigh Hackspace at the old cotton mill on Mather Lane.

He added: “I am looking forward to the exhibition as I have worked very hard to get my art done and, of course, it is always nice to show it to people.”

Aaron will also be painting scenes from the locations he moors at and include that with the exhibition.
