A DANCE academy has plenty to cheer about after its performance in its latest competition.

Street Dance Zone Academy (SDZ), based in Atherton, came away from the Iconic Street Dance Competition in Manchester with two wins and two runners-up positions.

In the nine years to 16 category, its team, called HipNotiX, came out on top, and its adult team, named Reborn, won its section too.

The academy's up to 10 years team, the Toxic Babes, achieved second place in their category while the Funky Femmes adult team finished one place away from the winner.

SDZ was founded in 1994 by Alison Jones, who has help from tutors Mark Vernon, Chelsea Miller and Jessica Payne

Alison said: "I am so proud of all the groups and the individuals who also did well in their solo categories."

Since the competition, SDZ dancers have been rehearsing for their performance at Atherton Carnival tomorrow, Sunday.

Their annual evening show will also take place at The Rose Club in Hindley next Saturday.

Tickets for the event at the Atherton Road venue cost £7 for adults and £3.50 for children.
