PLANS have been submitted to build 68 houses on farmland.

An application has been sent to Wigan Council to build the homes on land at Thompsons Farm off Heath Lane in Lowton.

The proposals comprise the second phase of Bloor Homes' 199-home development, Lowton Heath.

Twelve out of the 68 homes are set to be allocated for affordable housing.

A decision on the plans, which include associated roads, is expected to be made on October 25.

The 2.25 hectare site currently has a field containing a disused brick farmhouse and various outbuildings as well as a metal container.

Planning documents state the buildings are in "various stages of dereliction and none of them are listed as worthy of retention."

The buildings will be demolished if the plans are given the go ahead.

A neighbourhood consultation is in place until September 7.
