A POPULAR event in Atherton's calendar was once again a resounding success despite the stormy weather that threatened the evening.

Organised by the 'Friends of Atherton Park' since 2017, Atherton's 'Proms in the Park' have been a great occasion for families and people of all ages as summer draws to a close.

With four and a half hours of live music as well as range of food, drink, and craft stalls on offer at Atherton Park, there was something for everyone at the event on Friday, August 26.

Despite the torrential weather that paused the first act and almost cancelled the event, the Atherton community showed their togetherness and stuck it out for the volunteers who organise the event every year.

And with residents sticking it out under umbrellas and gazebos, an electric atmosphere shone once the rain began to subside and everyone got to enjoy the music once more.

With tickets placed at just £2, the event raised a huge £1500 for the 'Friends of Atherton Park', which all goes back into the management of the park.

Brian Seddon, one of the organisers of the event, said: "Considering the weather was horrendous, it turned out to be an absolutely amazing event.

"We thought people might have gone home but everyone stayed under their umbrellas and gazebos, and they all had a brilliant time.

"We always receive great support from the people of Atherton but to receive it again in that weather was amazing, and we can't thank people enough for supporting us and allowing us to carry out the event every year."

A well known volunteer who helps to organise numerous events in the community, Brian now has his sights on a Remembrance Day event and then the Atherton Nativity parade in the coming months.
