IT CERTAINLY feels as if winter is upon us with the nights drawing in and the weather beginning to turn.

Although it is maybe a little too early to start think about Christmas, Leigh’s Lantern Parade and Light Switch-on is fast approaching.

This free event will take place on Saturday, November 18 in Leigh town centre with the light parade supported by local dance and musical acts, a funfair and makers’ market.

It’s definitely a date to add to your diary.

It is also worth paying a visit to the Turnpike Gallery for the new Light Up Exhibition. It’s a mesmerising display of light-based artworks including illuminated sculptures that really catch the eye.

This free exhibition is available through until mid-December and the gallery is open Tuesday to Saturday each week.

A new online feature for council and partner services is now up-and-running, called the Our Town Directory.

It’s a central point for our borough’s local authority and community providers, giving you information to help you stay happy and healthy.

Whether you are living, visiting or working in the borough, there will be lots of relevant information available, along with events, activities, groups and childcare available in your local community.

If you are community group or organisation offering local services, you are welcome to add your listing to the directory.

I’m sure many of you will be regular visitors to Pennington Flash where exciting things have been happening over the past 12 months.

On top of being officially recognised as part of the region’s first and only National Nature Reserve ‘The Flashes of Wigan and Leigh’, we’ve also celebrated the opening of our new visitor centre and café as well as a fabulous adventure playground for families.

But this is only the beginning of our exciting new chapter and we’d like you to help us with our ongoing efforts to give visitors the best possible experience.

An online survey is available for you to let us know your thoughts. We’d like to hear what Pennington Flash means to you and what steps we can take to improve your day out.

To complete the short survey and be in with a chance to win a £50 voucher for The Hide Coffee House please visit bit.ly/PFvisitorsurvey.
