A HOUSEBUILDER says that the controversial development it is due to start work on will become a "superb" and "picturesque" site.

After Bellway Homes failed with a residential planning application along Hooten Lane around 30 years ago, the housebuilder returned with a new submission for 158 homes around the former Moss Bank Nurseries site last year.

Despite an overwhelming number of objections, predominantly about traffic congestion around Warrington Road, the application was granted, following a reduction of 12 homes, in January.

After some disagreements with councillors and planning officials, the housebuilder has agreed to construct 15 affordable homes in the development, and after recently exchanging contracts, it is due to make an "immediate start" on the 11-acre site.

With the Hooten Lane site identified as part of the council's five-year housing land supply, Bellway says it will "transform the site into a picturesque development", with Bedford Brook running along the eastern boundary and open fields.

To be known as Moss Bank Garden, the housebuilders say it will "provide a superb range of two, three and four bedrooms homes, incorporating mews, semi-detached and detached houses, all expertly designed to an exceptionally high standard".

"With it’s semi-rural feel and fantastic mix of two, three and four bedroom homes, we are confident interest in the properties will be high.”

Following the concerns about traffic congestion, Bellway has made a financial Section 106 contribution of £38,315 towards traffic calming and highway improvements in the locality.

Grace added: “We are thrilled to have started build at Moss Bank Gardens and look forward to the development taking shape, with the sales launch scheduled this summer.”

Bellway worked with APD Architects and Gateley Solicitors on the scheme. Further information about Moss Bank Gardens can be found here.
