LOCAL garages will play their part in promoting men’s health next week.

Atherton Car Safety Centre and County Motors (Leigh) Ltd will be distributing easy to read manuals covering male issues including prostate cancer and erectile dysfunction.

The Health Development Team at NHS Ashton, Leigh and Wigan will be working in partnership with the Men’s Health Forum to promote Men’s Health Week, which runs from June 15 to 21.

The garages will be distributing copies of the Haynes Man Mini Manual to customers.

The forum has worked with Haynes, the car manuals publisher, to create a manual specifically designed to promote health messages in a way that engages men.

The manuals provide a guide on a variety of important men’s health issues, including a healthy weight, diabetes and high blood pressure.

Andi Sizer, Men’s Health lead at NHS Ashton, Leigh and Wigan said: "Men are increasingly unlikely to consult with a doctor and mortality rates are higher for men than women for all the major causes of death, including cancers and cardiovascular disease.

“It is important that we undertake activities like this to raise awareness among men of the importance of making lifestyle changes to improve their health and well-being."
