TWO men accused of explosive charges following the discovery of suspicious packages appeared at Liverpool Crown Court.

Neil Harper, of James Street, Hindsford and Trevor Shawcross, of Green Lane, Hindley denied a number of offences and are to face trial in June.

Harper, aged 46, denied doing an act with intent to cause an explosion between November 20 and December 1 last year involving placing an explosive device at the door of the Lidl supermarket in Hindsford and setting light to the attached fuse.

He also denied placing an explosive device on a telecommunications box in West Bank Street, Hindsford, and setting it alight on a date between November 28 and December 1.

The third charge he denied alleges he had a explosive device in suspicious circumstances between the same dates.

Shawcross, 51, pleaded not guilty to 25 charges of making an explosive substance with intent to endanger life or damage property between June 1 and November 30 last year.
