GRAVEROBBERS are striking at Leigh Cemetery - but they must be vandals of the animal variety.

I visit my dad’s grave each week and with the worst of the cold weather over, like many other visitors, I decided to ditch the festive sprays and start buying fresh flowers again.

For two weeks I have returned to find the heads have been ripped off the stalks. It must be the rabbits – or slugs – having a very expensive feed.

It’s back to silk tributes.

No wonder most people decorate their graves with artificial flowers. They obviously last a heck of a lot longer.

•KATE Hollinshead has launched a one woman campaign against advertising outside Leigh cemetery.

Last year she won a battle to have a sign for hot food removed, but this year she was even more incensed by a mother’s day sign, complete with balloons, reminding people to order their flowers.

It is insensitive to say the least, and many others agree.

Perhaps if they decided to boycott the shop that is advertising the owner might have a change of heart.

The matter has been reported to the highways department by Wigan and Leigh Culture Trust.

Good for you, Kate. I admire people with spirit and conviction..
