LEIGH Genesis signed off their tenure at the Leigh Sports Village Stadium in style as Garry Flitcroft's side finished the season with a comfortable 2-0 win over Wakefield.

Midweek results meant that Leigh knew they would be unable to finish inside the play-off slots but a final position of sixth in the league, just three points outside a play-off berth, deserves huge credit for all concerned, particularly when you consider that the entire team have been playing without payment for the second half of the season.

Leigh showed more initiative in attack in the second half.

Jack Dorney and Tom Ince, two shining lights throughout Leigh's season playing on either flank, combined to put their side in front on 51 minutes when Dorney threaded through a wonderful pass for Ince to race on to a calmly slot past Zolna for his 15th goal of the season.

Top scorer Jordan Stepien sealed the win with his 21st strike of the season on 62 minutes.

Genesis: Dean Porter, Lee Woodyatt, Kris King, Mark Ross, Karl Munroe, Dale Whitham (Leroy Chinthengah), Jack Dorney, Steve Flitcroft, Tom Ince, Ilie Morariu (Jordan Stepien), Andy Heald (David Hill).

Leigh Genesis 2 Salford City 1

TWO injury time goals saw Leigh Genesis come up with a win against a resurgent Salford City last midweek despite trailing to the hosts for most of the game.

With regular goalkeeper Steven Drench missing through injury, teenager Dean Porter came in to the Leigh side for his first league appearance of the season.

There was little he could do to prevent Salford going ahead after 29 minutes when Steve Foster, through on goal, made no mistake in slotting the ball home.

The game exploded in to life with just three minutes left.

A controversial penalty award after midfield veteran Andy Heald was brought down allowed Jack Dorney to equalise.

Leroy Chinthengah headed home at the back post moments later to seal all three points for Genesis.
