LEIGH Genesis' new home at Crilly Park will be hosting Evo-Stik Division One North football next season after the ground passed an inspection by league officials on Tuesday.

An army of volunteers from both Leigh Genesis and Atherton Laburnum Rovers put in a huge amount of effort in recent weeks to ensure that the ground would pass with flying colours.

New perimeter fencing has been placed around the ground, while other work includes a new toilet block, improvements to the turn-stiles and the area around them, extensions to the dugout areas, general signage erected around the ground, terrace rails repainted, the pitch being re-seeded and a general tidying up of the physio room, changing rooms and outside areas.

Genesis chairman Alan Leach said: “To complete all of the work that was presented to us by the previous league inspection is a huge credit to all involved.

“I would like to thank all those who have assisted us in achieving the result and look forward to welcoming sup-porters to our new ground next season.”

Although all the work required by the league has now been completed, efforts are still ongoing to improve the general look of the ground, with a complete re-painting of the new stand next on the list along with a renewal of the ground's floodlights and PA system.

New manager Mark Maddox has taken the first step towards building his coaching line-up for the new season with the appointment of veteran midfielder Andy Heald as player-coach.

Having made 106 appearances during three spells with the club, Heald has been a familiar face for the past nine years since joining Leigh in the Nationwide Conference in 2001.

During that time, the 29-year-old midfielder has built up an extensive range of contacts throughout the non-league scene that could prove invaluable to team building for the 2010/2011 season.

Heald has always kept an eye on the coaching side of the game, working full-time as a junior sports coach and looking to extend his opp-ortunities at the end of his playing career by obtaining a UEFA B coaching licence.

Heald will assist Maddox in both coaching and recruit-ment, along with providing vital experience in the centre of Leigh's midfield as he continues his playing career.
