AN appeal has gone out to find the owner of a little black and tan coloured dog that was hit by a car on Reeves Street on the outskirts of Leigh town centre.

A caring person who witnessed the accident took him the Lancashire Heeler to Vet care in Leigh where he was given emergency first aid treatment and care for his severe facial injuries.

When nobody came forward to claim the seven years-old dog veterinary staff contacted Lilford Animal Rescue and local voluntary rescue organisation.

Rescue volunteer Adele Wheeler told the Journal: "Charles needed to see a specialist ophthalmic vet and has had to have necessary surgery to remove his right eye. All the relevant agencies are aware of Charles and the situation but no owner has come forward to claim him.

“Charles is a very happy and bright and is recovering well in our care and he is coping very well to the loss of his sight and will go on to manage just fine.

”If unclaimed after 28 days he will be looking for a new home. Due to the high cost of veterinary expenses any help with donations towards Charles' care would be very much appreciated."

To help reunite Charles with his owners or to contribute to the cost of treatment call the charity mobile number 07541 988 241.
