LEIGH rock 'n' roll legend Ronnie Carr rolled back the years with The Redundant Rockers to raise £3,120 for McMillan Nurses and consultant cardiologist Mr Nayyar Naqvi's heart fund.
Supported by superb female guitar vocalist Andie Dee and comedian Kevin Austin they put on a great performance at a sell-out show.
Ronnie was joined on stage by two other members of the original Beat Boys line-up - singer, harmonica player Alan Parkinson and George Twist (keyboard). The trio were boosted by the appearance of Alan Gilligan - rhythm guitar of The Bluenotes, Bill Hart - Drummer of The Shyms-Tynfoil and Keith Wright - lead guitarist of The Sportsmen.
They played a one hour spot featuring rock 'n' roll classics from throughout the past half-century.
As he recovered from his on stage antics which he admitted played havoc with his knees, fund-raising champion Ronnie was over the moon with the performance and the audience response at St James' Social Centre, Orrell.
"It said 'Bop till you drop' on the ticket - and we made sure they got what it said on tin," said Ronnie..
"It was a variety show that produced a great night of nostalgia. We had a superb line-up of talent to entertain and the audience dug deep into their pockets and purses to raise a cool £3,000-plus for these most deserving of charities. Thank you."
