Warrington RUFC 25 Leigh RUFC 22

LEIGH suffered another close and disappointing defeat in what has been a frustrating league campaign.

The side lacked the urgency and intensity of recent games, and a good Warrington outfit were quick to take advantage.

Leigh started well, but were unable to force an early score.

Warrington began to assume control and scored the first try after an exchange of penalties.

The home side led by seven points as Leigh turned to face the breeze in the second period.

Leigh skipper Iain Wood was sent to the bin in controversial circumstances and Warrington lost their influential number eight after a disallowed score.

The home side, however, coped better and established a commanding lead through a penalty, two excellent tries and one conversion.

With the game seemingly over Leigh finally came to life.

Tries by David Penn, Elliott Ryan and Ross Shepherd, with two Ryan conversions to add to his earlier penalty, put Leigh in touch of an unlikely win but they were unable to force the final score needed and had to settle for a losing bonus point.
