TWO cracking wins in the National Schoolboy Championships quarter finals by Kian Flanagan and Josh Waterworth on Sunday afternoon in Liverpool booked the pair a semi final outing.

They join Callum Ryder, Paddy Hewitt, Coan Gildart, Isaac McDonagh and Shaun Michael Varey in next Sunday’s semi finals.

Eleven-year-old Kian Flanagan was quickly into top gear, using speed and movement to outpoint Nicholas McGill of Everton Red Triangle, while 13-year-old Josh Waterworth produced his best-ever performance, out-boxing, out-punching and out-working Francis Breen of Rotunda.

Team Leigh schoolboy boxers continued their winning spree on Friday evening, Josh Taylor and Kevin Riley boxing on the Blackpool Kingscote show.

Fourteen-year-old Kevin Riley made his Team Leigh debut, and despite being set a tough task against the unbeaten Steven West of Blackpool Kingscote, the Leigh boxer won two of the three rounds to take a points victory.

Fourteen-year-old Josh Taylor turned in his best ever display against the very strong Finlay Lea Saint of Blackpool Kingscote to take a unanimous points’ win.

Team Leigh Boxing continued its commitment to boxer and coach development with Brian Ridge, Serwan Rassae, Matty Burgess and Adam Ridge all passing their ABA coaching course on Sunday.
