TEEN boxer Declan West got among the prizes at Astley VIP Boxing Club's end of season presentation night.

The 19-year-old celebrated his return to the sport after a three-year absence by taking home the Boxer's Boxer of the Year trophy.

West then also scooped the Thomas McCulloch Memorial Cup for Boxer of the Year at the Chaddock Lane gym, voted for by the club's coaches.

Astley's Damian Jones said: "Declan fully deserved this recognition from both the boxers and coaches following some superb performances during the season.

"Victories over some highly-ranked opponents mean he will be one to watch when the new season begins in September."

The club's Member of the Year trophy was awarded to 11-year-old Kai Pennington for his determination, commitment and dedication to Astley VIP.

"Kai is constantly helping new members whilst also completing his own training and has established himself as an important and valued member of the club," added Jones.

The boxers are now enjoying a summer break before returning for pre-season training on Monday, August 11.

New members are welcome with development sessions on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 6pm.
