ATHERTON Laburnum Rovers battled back from the disappointment of their first league defeat of the season with a hard-fought draw at home to Eccleshall.

On Monday evening LR made the journey across the Bolton border to face Daisy Hill, but in front of a bumper crowd at New Sirs succumbed meekly 4-0, two goals from impressive frontman Curtis Cummings doing much of the damage.

Those woes appeared set to continue as Eccleshall won a fourth minute penalty at Crilly Park on Saturday, LR keeper Marcus Burgess also being dismissed, but the home side showed their mettle to level with Jon Stephenson responding from the penalty spot.

Eccleshall regained the lead midway through the second half but LR earned a share of the points with Ash Farlow’s goal.

This Saturday LR travel to Chadderton before entertaining Cheadle Town at Crilly Park (Saturday, August 30, 3pm).
