A HOST of local dignitaries and riders from as far afield as Norwich and Swindon turned out at the Gin Pit to celebrate Astley and Tyldesley Cycling Club's 25th anniversary on Sunday.

Official guests included Mayor of Wigan, Councillor Phyll Cullen, and Deputy Lieutenant David Walton and they were treated to a full programme of racing for riders of all ages and abilities.

A&T's former European Champion Damian Zareba picked himself up from a heavy fall to win the deciding last race and claim the senior individual trophy after scoring a maximum 20 points.

Three riders tied for second place after scoring 18 points apiece. A&T's Reece Pollitt won the run-off ahead of Bury's Ben Scranage and Stockport's Ben Higham.

Bury's Danny Taylor won the intermediate individual, scoring an unbeaten 20 points. Max Evans, of A&T, was runner-up with 18 points, while Bury's James Elston finished third with 17 points.

Swindon's Alice Neighbour took the girls individual prize ahead of A&T's Emily Burgess, whose chances of victory were ended by a fall in the last race.

A&T's Lucy Grantham finished runner-up in the under-10s girls individual behind Bury's Angel Etheridge.

Kaysor Mohammedi, of Bury, won the junior individual with a maximum score, ahead of A&T's John White in second and Joe Quarmby in fourth.

A&T also claimed two victories over Heckmondwike in the Northern League on Sunday, winning their Division One match 90-59 and taking the Division Three tie 64-38.

Radek Hanke top-scored in the Division One tie with 19 points, while Max Evans led the way for the Division Three side with 14 points.
