NEW Brighton's top of the order showed their class in a convincing 117 run win against Leigh CC.

The hosts won the toss and opted to put New Brighton in to bat and despite the loss of opener Josh Rylance (12) with the scoreboard on 31, the visitors never looked troubled as they moved up to 115 before Khurram Hussain fell for 57.

Then David While wielded the bat including nine fours on his way to 75 and then Lancashire ace Luke Procter was unbeaten on 51 not out and he was supported by Andrew Clarke (13 not out) as they declared on 225.

The wickets were shared out among Richard Dempster, Hedley Molyneux and Matthew McKiernan.

In reply, Leigh struggled to get going with openers Ross Zelem (four), Matthew Hibbert (six) and Hedley Molyneux (nine) had brief outings at the pavilion.

But McKiernan rallied to stem the flow of wickets by putting 27 on the board and Adam Shallcross added 25.

However, the tail-end could not provide much resistance as they just edged over the 100 mark to finish 117 runs short after 37.1 overs.

Ashraf Nawab enjoyed the most success with the ball (4-19) while Martyn Evans (3-36) and David While (3-24) also took some plaudits.

Elsewhere, Joe Smith's 72 in the middle of the order played a key role in the second team beat Caldy by 41 runs.

Leigh started slowly with Daniel Taylor (23) and Daniel Hewitt (25) having good knocks before Smith blasted 11 fours in his score as they declared on 184.

Alex Seddon and Hewitt tormented the batting line-up with four wickets apiece while Chris Waywell taking the two remaining wickets.

Meanwhile, Tim Edwards' 67 was the main highlight as the third team drew with Bootle 4th team.
