MATTHEW McKiernan was the star with the bat and ball for Leigh as their eight wicket victory against Formby put them in fourth spot in the table.

Patrick Pisel started brightly for the visitors with 45 but Leigh managed to pull back the situation with only four players reaching double figures.

Formby's tail-end collapsed to 114 in 49.3 overs with Richard Dempster doing most of the damage with 5-38.

The rest of the wickets were shared out among Hedley Molyneaux (2-28) while McKiernan (2-40) and there was a run out by Adam Shallcross.

In reply, the hosts suffered an early setback when opener Matthew Hibbert returned to pavilion with just eight runs on the board.

Fellow opener Ross Zelem (34) repaired the damage but Molyneaux (32) and McKiernan (41) helped the home side over the finish line.

It was also a great weekend for the club with both the second and third teams enjoying wins.

Ben Smith (40), Joe Smith (47) and Lewis Clarke (27) laid the foundations for the second team in their total of 198.

Then Alex Seddon ripped into the Rainford batting line up with 4-26 and he was supported well by Ben Smith (3-12) while Chris Waywell, Gurmandeep Bains and Andrew Bradshaw taking a wicket each.

Meanwhile, the third team also defeated Rainford counterparts this time by 151 runs.

Lewis Dove's 63 along with Kevin Richardson's 40 were the main batting highlights in their total of 201 declared.

But Rainford were not able to cope with the combined threat of Adam Stevenson (2-8), Chris Melia (5-3) and Daniel Hatton (3-17) as they were bowled out for just 50.
