LEIGH Miners Rangers did their NCL Premier Division title chances no harm with a 30-12 victory at home to fellow play-off contenders Lock Lane.

The win moved Miners up to third in the table, just two points behind leaders Rochdale Mayfield but with a game in hand.

Centre Brad Hargreaves scored another hat-trick of tries and Sam Shepherd was a star with the boot, landing five goals.

Miners had to come from behind though, after Lock Lane opened the scoring and looked like extending their advantage before Joe Harrison wriggled free for the home side to dive over beside the posts.

Tommy Parkinson then saw a try ruled out for forward pass before two quick tries from Hargreaves and Mick O'Boyle gave Miners an 18-6 advantage at half time.

The home side again withstood a barrage after the break before Hargreaves burst through on the hour to effectively settle the match.

He added his treble in the final minutes as Scott Travis linked in to attack to put the big centre through out wide before Lane scored a late consolation.

The under-16s lost out in a gripping National Cup final at Hunslet. West Hull opened a commanding lead and although the juniors battled back strongly the Humberside team managed to keep their noses in front to seal the win.

This Saturday the first team make the long trip to Wath Brow.
