ATHERTON Collieries manager Michael Clegg insists there will be plenty of spice on Friday night when they take on Atherton LR in the FA Vase Qualifying Round Two at Alder Street.

With Colls being in the North West Counties League Premier Division and rivals LR in the division below it means that the two sides only do battle in cup competitions this season.

They have already met in a pre-season friendly when Colls were the 3-0 victors but Clegg hopes a bumper crowd can turn out for the local derby.

He said: "We thought it would be good to maximise the opportunities for people to come out and watch it.

"We are in good form after taking seven points from the top three league teams and one of those we conceded a 94th minute penalty to draw.

"We beat LR before but their team has evolved since then and we have changed our style.

"It will be an exciting game with a lot of tough tackles as you would expect and there are players who know each other and will want to have the bragging rights.

"At the end of the day we want to put ourselves in the next round of the competition."

Colls head into the tie in ninth place and 10 points off leaders Bootle while LR are 10th and are also 10 points off top spot.

The Alder Street side defeated Nelson 4-3 last week thanks to a brace by Jordan Cover and further efforts by James Kirby and Mark Battersby.

Meanwhile the Crilly Park side lost out 2-1 to local rivals Daisy Hill in the Men United Cup with Daniel Davis getting their goal.

The kick-off for the FA Vase tie is 7.45pm.
