Miners booked their place courtesy of a superb 22-20 win at West Hull in the final eliminator.

West Hull bossed the contest for the first 20 minutes, forcing unrelenting defence by Miners.

Penalties were going Wests' way but their advantages were spurned other than a successful penalty from Luke Foster.

An interception by young winger Will Ashcroft bought Leigh relief and 50 metres to spur his team into attacking action.

Full-back Jonny Youds linked into the line with elusive centre Lee Gittens to set up a flying 50m finish from Ashcroft, with Youds converting.

With brakes on the penalty count, Miners were now the better team and a sweeping move resulted in Youds setting up another emerging talent in Todd Fenlon to touchdown at the corner post for 10-2.

By half time Miners were bossing the game through forwards Sam Peet and Martin Gray, with Scott O’Brien using the strong cross-field wind to good effect.

West Hull regrouped and within four minutes they were on the score sheet, a short ball to big forward Jordan Rowan allowing him to crash over with Foster goaling.

The hosts were pressing again and kicked to rush the Miners line but the flight of the ball zoomed into the hands of winger Fenlon, who side stepped and accelerated to go the full length. Youds' conversion made it 16-8.

Steely Leigh defence was broken again under the weight of Wests' possession, with prop Ryan Esders barging over to leave nerves jangling again.

Eager to return the challenges, after forcing a knock on Miners speedily moved the ball wide where centre Lee Gittens flicked the ball out of a despairing tackle for Ashcroft to snap up his second try. Man of the match Youds added a superb conversion against all the conditions from the touchline.

Wests' second row Bobby Tyson-Wilson crossed from a power play but Leigh survived the final 15 minutes, including eight minutes of added time.
