LEIGH Centurions have allowed Alex Brown to re-join one of his former clubs, Batley Bulldogs on a month's loan.

The 26-year-old ex-Huddersfield and Batley winger joined Leigh from Super League Club Hull KR during the last close season but after playing in the first two competitive games of the campaign has not featured in the last four matches.

Brown has, however, twice notched four tries in a match for the free-scoring Centurions Reserve side in recent games against Oldham and Keighley.

Explaining the move, Centurions head of rugby Derek Beaumont said: "We do recognise Batley are one of our competitors but we have a high regard for their chairman Kevin Nicholas and head coach John Kear and this is a deal that suits all three parties.

"Our next three Reserves games are all against Academy sides where we are restricted in playing over-age players. Consequently there will be no avenues for Alex to force his way back into the side by playing competitive games in the near future.

"Batley are short on outside backs due to injuries and Alex has played for them previously so this is an ideal platform for him to build his confidence and form.

"We have a big squad of players at Leigh and at any time experienced players are going to be out of the first team. Alex remains a big part of our plans and we hope this move will prepare him to return to Leigh ready to be in a position to reclaim his place in our starting line-up."
