ADRIAN Lam believes in-form Leigh can upset visitors Warrington on Friday night providing his team isn’t intimidated by the Super League leaders.

The Leopards have won six of their last eight games in all competitions, including five-in-a-row, since losing 38-20 at the Halliwell Jones Stadium on March 17.

Daryl Powell’s side currently tops the table by four points and is a further two in front of fifth placed Leigh.

“Warrington’s forward pack is big and experienced,” said head coach Lam, mulling over whether to include new signing Frankie Halton for a debut against Wolves.

“They have been bullying teams throughout the competition. Off the back of that you have George Williams doing his magic.

“We have got to make sure when we are in the thick of that, we don’t take a backward step.

“It is not by luck they are top of the table. They have found a winning formula and it will be a tough encounter.

“But I am excited about it because we are a different team than we played them last time.

“We embarrassed ourselves a little bit and we didn’t play the way we want to as a club.

“I remember the players were disappointed (following the HJS loss) but I said it will be okay because it was just part of our growth.

“From that moment we have developed a whole heap as a group. We are still on the rise with a couple of levels to go and as a club we want to see where we are.

“But if you don’t prepare well against these top sides you can be put on your backside and taught a lesson. However, we are past that stage now and we will be in it.

“And beating a team ahead of us on the ladder at this time of the year would be really important to the group.”

Home grown second row Halton, 26, is a former Leigh reserve and Leigh Miners Rangers player.

“I am a big fan of Frankie and we worked hard getting him to the club,” added Lam of his Hull KR capture. “The style of rugby he plays suits the style we want to play.

“A big body coming to us at this stage of the season will take us to another level.”

Warrington will be without former Leigh playmaker, Josh Drinkwater, through suspension while winger Josh Thewlis misses through injury.

*Leigh will face York City Knights-the only Championship side left in the tournament-in next month’s Challenge Cup quarter-finals. A trip to the LNER Stadium is reward for last Friday’s 40-12 win at Wakefield.
