LIKE many others I am appalled at the devastation wreaked along the the unwanted Leigh Busway route that has laid waste to vast swathes of precious woodland wildlife habitat which took nature 40 years to create but only weeks to destroy forever.
A 15-year obsession with developing this ‘white elephant’ busway has irretrievably destroyed Leigh and Tyldesley's major wildlife corridor.
As for HS2, I thought your lead article ‘Town urged to back rail plan’ was an April Fool’s Day spoof, as it omitted to say if HS2 was built it would be 2032 (yes 19 years) before any new Leigh interchange could open.
Talk of such a project (by MP Andy Burnham) taking us out of recession and solving Leigh’s transport problems is pie in the sky. It’s now we need action, so the NW English Democrats ask Transport for Leigh and MP Andy Burnham to be open minded in considering other viable alternatives that could sooner be implemented.
We are referring to our electricity proposals mentioned earlier in your letters pages.
So we challenge them on behalf of the people of Leigh to at least consider them.
