THE Atherton Business Partnership together with the Atherton Win councillors have successfully persuaded Transport for Greater Manchester to relocate the stop for the guided busway to where they should be in the centre of Atherton on Market Street, with a final stop in Bag Lane.

The original proposal was for the final stop in Atherton being outside the Atherton Arms, and then to turn into Flapper Fold, commencing the return journey at the stop near the junction with Alma Street on Mealhouse Lane.

I have to congratulate Transport for Greater Manchester for listening to common sense and attending the Atherton Business Partnership Meeting on Tuesday, March 11 when they announced their decision to relocate the bus stops.

The only other matter that has still to be addressed is the issue of parking. Various solutions were suggested including restricted waiting times on the existing car parks, with a penalty after three hours to discourage people from parking there all day while they go to Manchester using the guided bus service.

The businesses on Market Street had concerns regarding the availability of spaces for them to use, and for their customers.

A solution may be to introduce an area for businesses only with a permits to park.
