WITH regards to the letter about riding on the pavement.
I agree with all that was pointed out, as I was a victim recently. I was walking along the footpath at the side of the Tesco’s car park when a young lad came off the car park, knocking me to the ground.
I banged my head on the metal barrier that runs down the footpath. I was unable to move and someone got the first aid man from Tesco and an ambulance was called.
I was taken to Wigan Infirmary, where an X-ray revealed I had a broken leg. I was kept in overnight and released the following day. This happened on February 24. I am unable to work and it will be June before I will be able to go back.
I will be out of pocket, so why can’t it be a fixed penalty of £50 to ride on the pavement? The fine would still be cheaper than dropping a toffee paper on the ground, but it may deter people from riding on the pavement. It would seem there is nothing I can do because the lad is a minor.
Would it not be a good thing if bikes had to be insured?
