AS promised, I can reveal good news for the residents of Tyldesley.

With self-perseverance and great help from the council’s access committee and Lynda Singleton from the Disability Working Group, we have secured funds for the complete refurbishment of the market square toilets.

The toilets have already been secured on the outside with re-asphalting the roof and mending the handrail. Within the next few months the insides will be completely gutted. When finished there will be gents and ladies toilets and good news for the disabled, a separate ‘Radar’ toilet.

There will be a short ‘inconvenience’ while the work is taking place.

In October work will start on the market square section of the guided bus route. Built aside Stanley Street will be a bus shelter/stop.

This will accord with government regulation and will provide level access to the bus, thus providing easy access for wheelchair users, and opening up a special transport link to Manchester and Leigh. For the first time the disabled of Leigh, Atherton and Tyldesley will have a specially designed system that could open up a Pandora’s box to the theatres, hospitals and the universities. Pity I am at the wrong end of the timescale!
