I AM writing in response to the current issues related to the guided busway.

I have lived on Sale Lane since 2003 and traffic has always been congested in the morning.

My commute to work is exactly 12 miles to Moss Side and if I left before 7.15am I could make the journey in 35 minutes. Since the work started on the busway, the traffic congestion has become horrendous.

I found even if I left for work at 7am it would take a minimum of one to two hours. Similar on my return journey, if I left after 4pm, even just five minutes after, my commute would take about the same amount of time.

This commute twice a day began to have a significant impact on my stress levels and ultimately on my health.

There was the huge pressure of having to leave earlier in the mornings and finish work at 4pm, or wait until after 6.30pm, to avoid being stuck in two-tofour hours’ traffic, five days week – to do a daily 24-mile commute.

My eight-and-a-half-hour working day with this commute became a 10-and-a-half-hour day, which also started to have an impact on my health.

My only solution to resolve this was to go into debt and buy a motorbike, so that I can get through traffic queues.

I can now do my journey in 30-40 minutes.

Words cannot express the massive release of pressure this has had for me in my daily commute, and ultimately on my stress levels and my health, however I should not have been forced to get into debt and massively stressed in the first place.
