I LIVE in a six-block of council flats in Atherton.

I returned from holiday to find two additional bins (in tasteful, eye-catching red) outside our premises. I have no idea what these bins are for – this colour is not even on Wigan Metro’s website. Our flats now have six black bins, two red ones, one brown one and a green one. However, the purpose-built bin shed will only hold four bins so this shed remains empty – it’s up a step, a very tight fit indeed and needs to be unlocked for every visit.

There are now six bins outside the front entrance. It’s going to be delightful in warm weather and an eyesore the rest of the year, not to mention a fire-risk from vandals.

The other bins are round the back, but to get them there each one requires a push past 12 flats and a car park of similar distance. Our block of flats is beginning to look like a slum.
